US Deputy Secretary of State meets External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar in Delhi

New Delhi: Visiting US Secretary of State Wendy Sherman on Wednesday met Secretary of State Dr. S. Jaishankar, during which he discussed the relationship between Washington and New Delhi.

“Glad to meet US @DeputySecState Wendy Sherman today. A great conversation on our relationship, its importance and its development. Appreciate PM @narendramodi’s successful visit to the US and the Quad Leaders Summit,” tweeted Dr. Jaishankar.

Earlier in the day, Foreign Secretary Harsh Vardhan Shringla held discussions with the US Deputy Secretary of State on taking forward the strategic partnership.

They discussed issues of regional interest, particularly the emerging situation in Afghanistan after the Taliban took control of the nation.

The Secretary of State and the US Deputy Secretary of State reiterated their commitment to a free, open and inclusive Indo-Pacific region, including continued cooperation under the Quad.

They also took stock of bilateral issues including security and defence, economic, climate and clean energy and people-to-people ties.

Both also discussed the Kovid-19 pandemic.

The US Deputy Secretary of State, who is on a three-day visit to India, is also expected to meet National Security Advisor Ajit Doval.

“Deputy Secretary Sherman’s visit will be a useful opportunity to continue regular dialogue and further strengthen the India-US Comprehensive Global Strategic Partnership,” the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) said in a release earlier.
