BEIRUT: US forces have captured three members of the Islamic State group during a helicopter and ground raid in eastern Syria, US Central Command (CENTCOM) said on Sunday.
CENTCOM described the militants as a facilitator, tactician and an “associate” of the jihadist group and said they had been captured the day before.
One civilian suffered “minor injuries” and was taken to a medical facility, CENTCOM said in a statement.
Washington is leading the international coalition fighting IS in Syria.
After a coalition-backed military offensive in March 2019 saw the jihadists lose their last scraps of territory, IS remnants in Syria retreated mostly to desert bases in the east of the country.
Since then, they have used such bases to ambush Kurdish-led forces and Syrian government troops, while continuing to mount attacks in Iraq.
On Friday, CENTCOM said a drone strike hit a US-led coalition base in southern Syria, which a war monitor said was launched by Iran-backed groups.
