Delhi’s Ishita Rathi, the daughter of two Delhi Police personnel, who secured 8 rank in UPSC Mains this year, claimed that she dreamed of serving the nation after seeing her parents. The 26-year-old, who cleared the UPSC in her third attempt, said she wants to work for women empowerment in the country as she believes that “if women develop in the country, the country continues to develop.”

Ishita, who completed her post-graduation in economics from Madras School of Economics, said she did not opt ​​for any coaching to crack the exam. Talking about his preparation, he said, “Though I didn’t take any coaching, I took mentoring for my optional subject (economics).” Elaborating on her own preparation journey she says, “After going through the course I realized that these topics can be covered on their own. Now there is a lot of free material available from which students can take help and prepare for the exam on their own.”

He prepared the strategy by listening to the toppers of the previous years. “For some subjects like Geography and Politics, NCERTs are very well written, so referring to them will clear the basics for the candidates. They are helped by reading newspapers and current affairs. I also took help from popular UPSC preparation books which include Laxmikant for Politics and Spectrum for History. I mostly mentioned all the resources which are referred by most of the toppers and it helped me. But the key in all of them was multiple revisions, making your notes and revising them over and over again. ,

Ishita, who claims to be a morning person, said that she planned her days with a few hours of study and then took a break in between. “I am a morning person and work early to prepare for my exams. The special thing is that he did not study keeping in mind the time, but gave himself a target. Sometimes the goals were met earlier than I thought, while other days it took more than 10 hours.

When asked to give last minute exam tips for UPSC aspirants, he said, “First of all be confident. Secondly, surround yourself with positive people and be assured that you will succeed in the exam you have prepared.” He added, “Take the argument with you to the exam hall. The soon-to-be IAS officer said that seeing her parents satisfied with their work as police officers and serving the nation made her want to become an IAS officer. “He has been my inspiration, who also made me feel that civil services would be the most effective platform for me to serve the country,” the topper said.

He said that in order to make his dream come true, his parents gave him all the help and resources he needed to prepare for the exam.
