UP’s village head studying medicine in Ukraine in trouble after video, video of asking for help goes viral

new Delhi: A video appeal by an Indian medical student from Ukraine, who is also a village head in Hardoi, Uttar Pradesh, has landed her in trouble as the administration has decided to investigate possible financial irregularities and her gram sabha in her absence. How was the account working?

In a video uploaded a few days ago, Vaishali Yadav, head of Tera Purseli village, said that she is stuck in troubled Ukraine and needs help. She also said that she was studying medicine in a college there.

The matter came to light after a BJP MLA posted a tweet alleging that Vaishali had made the video allegedly to defame the BJP government.

Bihar BJP MLA Anil Kumar wrote on his Twitter handle that when the police ‘arrested’ Vaishali, he had said that he had put the video on the instructions of his father.

But when contacted, Hardoi Superintendent of Police Rajesh Dwivedi said that no police action has been taken against Vaishali as she is in Romania.

Meanwhile, Vaishali’s father Mahendra Yadav, who is a Samajwadi Party leader and former block chief, said that his daughter had gone to Ukraine to pursue her medical course and is currently in Romania.

Mahendra further said that she had come to Hardoi last year, during which she contested, won the election of the village head and participated in the meeting of the gram sabha.

“The village head has to attend at least two meetings in a year and Vaishali will attend the second meeting of the gram sabha,” news agency PTI quoted Mahendra as saying.

Hardoi’s Chief Development Officer (CDO) Akanksha Rana told PTI on Wednesday that in view of the viral video, the administration has started checking the bank accounts of the Gram Sabha.

Rana said the village head does not need any formal permission to go abroad for studies and the priority of the administration right now is to ensure his safe return from Ukraine.

The CDO said that if there is any financial irregularity in the Gram Sabha bank account, it will be investigated by the administration and after proper investigation, the account can be confiscated.
