Upcoming Toyota Belta sedan based on Maruti Suzuki Ciazzo unveiled ahead of launch in India

The upcoming Toyota Belta mid-size sedan has been officially unveiled for the Middle-Eastern markets ahead of its launch in India. The Maruti Suzuki Ciaz-based sedan made by Maruti Suzuki for Toyota as part of the two-brand global partnership will replace the Yaris sedan that was recently discontinued in India. Ahead of the Belta launch in India, which is scheduled for 2022, Toyota has already launched the Baleno based Glanza and Vitara Brezza based urban cruiser for the domestic customers.

Toyota has largely switched products under the Suzuki-Toyota partnership in an act of consolidation with Suzuki-made products and sells only the Innova and Fortuner as Toyota-manufactured products. The rest are all Suzuki manufactured products being assembled at Suzuki’s plant in Gujarat.

As can be seen from the images, the Toyota Belta is based on the Ciaz, with only the badging being changed, much like the Baleno-Glanza pair where no physical appearance changes were made. The Urabn Cruiser, which was the first product, received significant changes up front compared to the Vitara Brezza. The Belta gets the same dimensions, overall profile as the Ciaz. However, it is being speculated that the Belta will get new color options as compared to the Ciaz.

Inside the cabin too, the Beta will get the same layout with a similar set of features including a 7.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system, multi-function steering wheel, auto climate control system, analog dial with colored MID, among others. Reports suggest that Toyota will revamp the variant lineup to sell the Belta as a more premium offering than the Ciaz in the case of the Glanza.

Under the hood, the Belta gets the same 1.5-litre K-series petrol engine as the Ciaz that churns out 105 PS of maximum power and 138 Nm of peak torque. While Toyota may ditch the manual transmission altogether in the Middle-Eastern countries, offering only a four-speed automatic with the Belta, the Japanese carmaker will offer a five-speed manual transmission in India as well.

Toyota will export the Belta from India to other countries and is expected to launch in early 2022 as Toyota no longer has a mid-size sedan. Estimated price will be between Rs 10-15 lakhs.
