UP private schools allowed to increase fees by 10%

The Uttar Pradesh government has now allowed private schools across the state to increase fees by 10 percent. In the order issued by Aradhana Shukla, Additional Chief Secretary, Secondary Education, it has been said that private schools can increase their fees from the coming academic session. Shukla said that the fee structure of the academic session 2019-20 will be kept on the basis, after which the fee can be increased by 10 percent.

The government had earlier banned all private schools from increasing school fees in the wake of the Kovid-19 pandemic. “Private schools may increase fees as per norms for academic session 2022-23,” reads the letter issued by the UP government to District Inspectors of Schools (DIOS) and other secondary education department officials.

The union of private schools in UP had on January 7 challenged the government’s order prohibiting the hike in school fees due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The Lucknow bench of the Allahabad High Court had on March 15 asked the state government to file its reply on the petition.

The government had closed private schools in the academic session 2020-21 and 2021-22 due to the pandemic. The schools were asked to continue with the fee structure of 2019-20.

Meanwhile, the UP Board Class 12 exams began on March 24 and will continue till April 12. The exam is being conducted in two shifts – morning shift from 8 am to 11:15 pm and second shift from 2 pm to 5 pm. 15 hrs. A total of 24,11,035 students have registered and appearing for the UP 12th examination.
