UP Polls Turf Charge From AAP’s Power Play: Bills Driven People To Suicide, Says Sisodia

The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), which has decided to contest all 403 assembly seats in Uttar Pradesh in 2022, on Thursday promised that if its government comes to power, its government will provide 300 units of electricity free to all domestic consumers. Will give, will forgive the arrears. Ensure bills and 24-hour power supply to 38 lakh families. The party has made similar promises in Punjab, Uttarakhand and Goa where assembly elections will be held early next year. In an interview with News18, AAP leader and Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia outlined his party’s priorities, alliance prospects, hatred of communal politics and the viability of his promises. Edited excerpt:

Should your announcement of power be seen as a big leap in the political battle of UP?

You do politics of public interest. This is our commitment to the people who run our politics. After a detailed study, we feel that the power sector reforms and relief can be easily given to the people of UP. If voted to power, we will ensure 300 units of free electricity for domestic consumption within 24 hours and orders will be given for free supply to farmers.

Isn’t this a populist declaration?

Politicians who don’t want to work for the people say so. If Delhi can do it in a budget of Rs 50,009 crore, then why not UP with Rs 5 lakh 50 thousand crore?

What stops you from making tall claims when you are not actually in the running to form the government?

The crisis of power is bringing us to power in UP. People committed suicide because of high electricity rates. It is the common people who will put us in the race. Parties are spreading rumors against us that we are not in the race for power in UP.

Are the prospects of an alliance closed?

We are not looking for an alliance. We will contest on all 400 seats. We are working with a vision.

Is there any discussion going on with Akhilesh Yadav or has there been any discussion?

We do politics of work. Health, electricity, employment are our issues. We find that no party is working on these lines and hence they are not suitable for us. Rumors were rife about a possible alliance. We let people continue with speculation.

With the elections approaching, a debate has broken out on ‘Abba Jaan and Chacha Jaan’. Communal politics is on the rise. The Prime Minister recently, when in Aligarh, reminded people how bad things were before 2017.

Here people are dying (people are dying here) and these parties will get stuck with ‘Abba Jaan and Chacha Jaan’. Those who did not work for the people for the last four and a half years are now worried about their ‘Abba Jaan and Chacha Jaan’. You care about the lives of common people.

When will Arvind Kejriwal be active in UP?

Very soon. Their schedule is being prepared.
