UP Govt to Assess Mental Health of Students

The Uttar Pradesh government will now assess the mental health and intelligence of students of government schools.

According to officials, the evaluation will help the government to address the issues of primary and secondary students so that they can perform better in future.

For this, Psychology Bureau Prayagraj has prepared a questionnaire.

There are 48 questions with five alternative answers – agree, disagree, neutral, strongly agree and strongly disagree.

It will be sent to the schools where the teachers will take the responses of the students and send them back to Prayagraj. After this the psychologist will assess their answers and prepare a report based on that.

Usha Chandra, Director, Psychology Bureau, Uttar Pradesh said, “Our sole aim is to ensure that students in primary and secondary schools do well academically. Our experts have assessed the mental health and intelligence of students studying in council schools. We will try to find out whether the students are facing any problem at the school level or there is any shortcoming in front of the parents.”

The draft of the questions has been sent to BASIC from the Office of the Psychology Bureau. education Officers of all 75 districts. Teachers will be given the responsibility to assess the mental health of the children based on the answers given by the students.

Initially, this exercise will be done in 150 schools in every district. Gradually it will be included in all government schools.

The experts of Psychology Bureau will evaluate the responses of the students and prepare a report suggesting the measures to be taken to address the problems (if any). This will be followed by an exercise to improve the learning skills of the students.

Along with this, a special plan will be prepared to make academically weak children equal to other students.

According to the letter sent to Basic Education Officers, the data of mental health assessment will remain confidential.
