Union Home Minister Amit Shah will reach Lucknow on Friday on a two-day visit considered important ahead of the 2022 Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections. Shah will hold important meetings for the strategy of the upcoming elections.

Shah will reach the Defense Expo Ground of Vrindavan Yojna in Sector 17 from the airport at 11 am and will launch the party’s special membership drive there. The BJP has set a target of making more than 1.5 crore new members in the state during this special membership drive. At present there are 2.3 crore BJP workers in the state.

Party sources said the BJP would organize special camps at different places in each assembly for the membership drive. Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and State BJP President Swatantra Dev Singh have directed all MPs, MLAs and party office bearers to take forward the membership drive in region-wise meetings. After the launch of the membership drive, Amit Shah will also flag off the party’s LED campaign vehicles.

Shah will reach Indira Gandhi Pratishthan in Gomtinagar at around 1 pm and will address a meeting of senior workers. Former MLA, former MP, in-charge and convener of 2019 Lok Sabha elections will also be present in the meeting.

After this, Shah will reach the party’s state headquarters. He will also hold a meeting with party office bearers. Sources said the performance of the sitting MLAs could also be discussed. If sources are to be believed, the organization has found in its internal survey that there is a lot of dissatisfaction with the MLAs in about 100 seats.
