BJP, JD(U) alliance is in power in Bihar.

UP Election 2022 News: The ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Janata Dal-United (JDU) are likely to contest next year’s assembly elections in Uttar Pradesh together. Sources said the alliance between the two parties is likely to be formalized soon.

The leaders of both sides have already held several meetings to finalize the deal. Sources said top JD(U) leaders have held meetings with Union Home Minister Amit Shah, BJP national president JP Nadda and Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath.

The JD(U) has claimed that the party has considerable influence in at least two dozen seats located near the Bihar border. Party insiders say that JD-U is trying to woo Kurmi, Koeri and Bhumihar vote banks in these seats.

Earlier, JDU had said that if there is no alliance with BJP in UP, then it will contest on 200 seats in Uttar Pradesh. In 2017, JD-U did not contest the UP elections as it was planning to return to the BJP-led NDA in Bihar.

As far as the BJP is concerned, the saffron party, led by Om Prakash Rajbhar’s Suheldev Bharatiya Samaj Party (SBSP), is trying to blunt the influence of the Partnership Sankalp Morcha, an alliance among smaller parties in the state. Asaduddin Owaisi’s AIMIM is also a part of the front.

The other two major parties – Akhilesh Yadav’s Samajwadi Party and Mayawati’s Bahujan Samaj Party – have already announced that they will go it alone in the UP elections this time. The Samajwadi Party and Congress fought the 2017 elections together, however, the alliance failed to pose any major challenge to the BJP.
