UP Election 2022: BJP panel led by CM Yogi will meet on Monday to take a call on candidates

New Delhi: Eyeing a second term in power, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) will hold an important meeting in Lucknow on Monday to discuss the strategy for the upcoming Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections.

According to sources, all the members of the Uttar Pradesh BJP election committee will be present in the meeting during which the party will decide on fielding candidates in the first two phases of the elections.

Sources said the names of the candidates would be shortlisted in this meeting, though the final decision would be taken by the party’s central election committee.

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and Deputy Chief Ministers Keshav Prasad Maurya and Dinesh Sharma will be present in this meeting, in which all 24 members of the BJP Election Committee will be present.

BJP leaders Radha Mohan Singh, Sunil Bansal, Sanjeev Kumar Balyan, Rajveer Singh, Vinod Kumar Sonkar, Brajesh Pathak, Baby Rani Maurya, Arun Singh, Ramapati Ram Tripathi, Y. Satya Kumar, Sunil Ojha and Sanjeev Chaurasia will be among those present in the meeting to be held at 4 pm

Earlier on Saturday, the Election Commission said that voting in seven phases for the 403-member Uttar Pradesh Assembly will begin from February 10.

The polling dates will be February 10, 14, 20, 23, 27, 3 and March 7, while the counting of votes will take place on March 10.

The BJP registered a landslide victory in the 2017 assembly elections and secured 312 seats in the 403-member Uttar Pradesh Assembly.
