UP BJP MPs Get Restive, Keep Embarrassing Party, Govt

Bharatiya Janata Party MPs in Uttar Pradesh are becoming increasingly vocal about their displeasure against the ‘system’ and are leaving no stone unturned to embarrass the party and the government.

BJP MP from Kanpur Satyadev Pachauri has written a letter to the UP government saying that the criminal cases registered against SP MLA Irfan Solanki should be investigated on the basis of merit and facts.

Pachauri said that the criminal cases registered against the SP MLA should be investigated in a fair manner.

Asked whether he helped Solanki’s wife and mother meet some senior officials, including the Principal Secretary, Home, the MP said that every person has the right to approach the authorities to keep the matter in their knowledge. ask a Favour.

Pachauri’s interference in a case related to an opposition MLA has caused much embarrassment to the state government.

The SP MLA, who surrendered on Friday, is facing multiple criminal cases including for forging Aadhaar cards.

In another instance, a few days ago, Pachauri and two other BJP MPs – Devendra Singh Bhole from Akbarpur and Ashok Rawat from Misrikh – took strong objection to Assembly Speaker Satish Mahana calling a meeting of Kanpur officials to discuss development .

The three MPs sent a letter to the Kanpur divisional commissioner demanding cancellation of the meeting and walked out of the meeting after the Speaker questioned holding of such a meeting.

He questioned the jurisdiction of the Speaker and indicated that holding such a meeting was infringing on the rights of MPs.

It has been underlined in the letter that the meeting of the District Development Coordination and Monitoring Committee is being held under the chairmanship of Ashok Rawat to review the development works.

A copy of the letter has been sent to the Chief Minister.

Amazed Mahana went ahead with the meeting.

Mahana said that he was within his jurisdiction to preside over the meeting. “I represent Maharajpur constituency in Kanpur and have been and will continue to hold such meetings. My sole aim is to ensure that there is no hindrance in the development works.”

Devendra Singh Bhole said, ‘Mahan is on a constitutional post, he should follow the constitutional norms. The way his advisor wrote the letter for this meeting is wrong.”

Party insiders say that this meeting is being seen as a tug of war for the Kanpur and Akbarpur Lok Sabha seats.

Earlier, Dhaurahara MP Rekha Verma had written a letter accusing a woman officer of being involved in the paddy procurement scam.

The letter went viral on social media and gave ammunition to the opposition already making similar allegations.

Former Dumariyaganj BJP MLA Raghavendra Pratap Singh used derogatory language against party MP Jagdambika Pal at a public function and the party turned a blind eye to his behaviour.

Last month, BJP MP from Kaiserganj Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh released a video claiming that elected representatives were forced to touch the feet of bureaucrats.

He also took a dig at yoga guru Baba Ramdev and demanded an inquiry against him, knowing full well that the latter had cozy relations with the BJP high command.

The surprising thing is that despite about half a dozen cases of violation of party discipline, the BJP leadership has not taken any initiative in this matter.

A senior party functionary said, “MPs who know they may be denied ticket in 2024 on grounds of age or poor performance are making excuses. The countdown for the Lok Sabha elections has begun and such actions should be ignored.”

However, one MP said that he was forced to speak only because the party was ignoring key issues.

“In the coming days more and more leaders will speak as elections are round the corner, we are also answerable to the people,” he said.
