Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge again hit out at the Center for raising Rahul Gandhi’s statement on democracy in Parliament and said, those who crush democracy are talking about saving it.

Earlier last week, Congress MP Gandhi alleged that the structures of Indian democracy were under “brutal assault” and that the country’s institutions were under full-scale assault. He made these statements during his 10-day visit to London. Since then, leaders of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) have been targeting Gandhi, demanding an apology for his “critical remarks against the country”.

Meanwhile, Kharge, who led a protest rally from the Parliament House complex to Vijay Chowk along with MPs from other opposition parties, called Prime Minister Narendra Modi a “dictator” and alleged that his government was misusing investigative agencies.

“They (BJP) are crushing and destroying democracy and talking about saving democracy and the pride of the country,” he said. The Congress chief alleged, “They are ‘suppressing’ opposition parties through ‘misuse’ of agencies. It is like ‘Ulta Chor Kotwal Ko Dante’.”

Kharge alleged that PM Modi has “ridiculed” India several times abroad and cited the example of his speeches in China, South Korea, Canada and the United Arab Emirates.

Kharge raised the issue of Adani

He said that if the Prime Minister can say all kinds of things against India, then why is it a crime when Rahul Gandhi does so. Kharge alleged that all this was being done by the government to divert attention from the Adani-Hindenburg issue.

“We are demanding a JPC on the Adani issue. The government is trying to divert attention from it… We are together and will continue to demand a JPC on the Adani issue,” he said. The Leader of Opposition also alleged that he was being discriminated against in the Rajya Sabha as the Leader of the House was allowed to speak for 10 minutes and when he got up, the House was adjourned for two minutes.

Opposition parties earlier held a meeting in the chamber of the Leader of the Opposition to chalk out their strategy in Parliament. Today is the first day of the second phase of the budget session of Parliament.

“India will survive if Modi is gone”

Meanwhile, Congress leader SS Randhawa also attacked PM Modi for criticizing Gandhi for criticizing Gandhi. “You should end your fights and talk about ending Modi, if Modi ends then India will be saved…Modi doesn’t know the meaning of ‘patriotism’,” he said.

Congress Lok Sabha MP Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury has written to Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla, requesting him to remove Defense Minister Rajnath Singh’s statement where he made “certain comments on Rahul Gandhi”.
