Uddhav sacks Eknath Shinde from party posts; Reason- ‘anti-party’ activities

Mumbai (Maharashtra): The drama in Maharashtra politics continued on Friday (July 1) as well. Shiv Sena President Uddhav Thackeray removed the new Chief Minister Eknath Shinde from the post of Shiv Sena leader. Shinde had rebelled against his predecessor Uddhav, and a political crisis erupted in Maharashtra when, under Shinde’s leadership, other legislators who supported him remained in Guwahati. A Shiv Sena statement said that now Shinde has been removed from the Shiv Sena for indulging in “anti-party activities”. Uddhav Thackeray resigned on Wednesday (June 29).

Earlier on Friday, former Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray hit out at the BJP for giving the chief minister’s post to a rebel Shiv Sena leader Eknath Shinde and said if the former allies had agreed to it earlier, there would have been no Maha in the state. After the 2019 assembly elections in the state, the Shiv Sena and the BJP had demanded 2.5-year chief ministership for both the parties during the five-year term, which the latter did not agree to. The Shiv Sena then allied with rivals NCP and Congress to form the government.

Talking about the swearing-in ceremony of Shinde, who was appointed as chief minister and Devendra Fadnavis, who was sworn in as his deputy, Thackeray said, “About what happened yesterday, I had told Amit Shah earlier also That one should be Shiv. CM of Shiv Sena for 2.5 years (during Shiv Sena-BJP alliance). If he had done this earlier, there would have been no Maha Vikas Aghadi.”

Hitting out at Shinde, who led the rebellion against him for over a week, the Shiv Sena chief said the new chief minister was not from his party, which the BJP aims to make. He said that he had told Union Home Minister Amit Shah about the distribution of the chief minister’s post for 2.5-2.5 years in 2019. “The way the government has been formed and a so-called Shiv Sena worker has been made the CM, I told Amit Shah the same thing. It could have been done respectfully. Shiv Sena was officially with you (at that time). This Chief Minister (Eknath) Shinde) is not the chief minister of Shiv Sena.

The Eknath Shinde government in Maharashtra will face a trust vote on July 4 to prove its majority in the state assembly. The special session of the Maharashtra Legislative Assembly will be held on July 3 and 4.
