Udaipur Murder Case: Four arrested accused sent on 10-day NIA remand, lawyers attacked in Jaipur court

A Jaipur court on Saturday sent the four arrested accused in the Udaipur tailor murder case to the National Investigation Agency (NIA) on 10-day remand. When the accused were being escorted back in a police vehicle amidst heavy security, a mob of agitated lawyers tried to attack them and tore the clothes of one of the four accused. The lawyers raised slogans and demanded capital punishment.

A lawyer said, “The court has ordered police remand till July 12. Before producing all the accused in court, a police team from Jaipur took the accused – Riyaz Akhtari and Ghaus Mohammad – and their accomplices Asif and Mohsin – to the office of the Special Operations Group of the Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS).

Additional police force was deployed in the court as well as in the city areas for security reasons. There was heavy policing in the court premises and agitated lawyers raised slogans like “Pakistan Murdabad” and “Kanhaiya’s killers hanged” (Kanhaiya’s killers should be given death sentence).

According to PTI sources, the NIA has collected all the documentary evidence from the ATS.

Akhtari and Mohammad allegedly killed Kanhaiya Lal, a Udaipur tailor named Kanhaiya Lal, with a cleaver at their shop on June 28 for supporting suspended BJP spokesperson Nupur Sharma, and posted videos online saying they were ” Insulting Islam”.

Akhtari and Ghosh were arrested by the Rajasthan Police on the day of the incident, while Mohsin and Asif were arrested two days later. The latter two have been accused of being involved in conspiracy and conducting recce of Kanhaiya Lal’s shop.
