Two CBSE affiliated Kolkata schools closed indefinitely after parents protest against fee hike

Two leading private girls’ schools in Kolkata – GD Birla Center for Education and Ashok Hall Girls’ HS School – have been closed indefinitely citing law and order crisis. Both the schools, owned by the BK Birla Group of Companies, have been closed in view of the parents’ protest against the fee hike by the school authorities.

According to reports, the schools had reportedly stopped promotions and stopped admission of students who failed to pay the full amount of the increased fees during the pandemic. Both the schools are affiliated to CBSE.

“In view of the current law and order situation due to movement in and out of the school, we are compelled to close the school, we are compelled to close the school for the safety of the students and teachers till further notice. , Please be with us,” reads notices by both the schools.

The matter has now gone to the Calcutta High Court which ruled on Wednesday that the promotion of students who do not pay the increased fees cannot be stopped. It also directed that the pending fees should be paid within two weeks. A day after the order of the Calcutta High Court, both the schools have been directed to remain closed.

It is in the mid academic year, CBSE is ready to start class 10 and 12 exam from 26 april, The students have already appeared for term 1 exam. The admit card is likely to be released from mid-April. Students can download it from the official website or visit their respective schools to collect the hall ticket.

The board will conduct the Term 2 exam in the format of a subjective question. The syllabus was also divided into two parts. The final result will be calculated taking into account 1, 2, internal and practical marks.
