Madurai: Two relatives of a patient have been arrested for assault doctor and abusing other staff members of a private multi-specialty Hospital In madurai on Wednesday.
Those arrested have been identified as T Purushothaman (31) of Thanneri and V Palanikumar (47).
At around 4 am on Wednesday, Palanikumar admitted his son to the emergency ward of the hospital after he was injured. Doctors advised surgery.
Palanikumar and Purushottam verbally abused the hospital staff, including doctors and nurses, and prevented them from providing treatment. They beat up and threatened the doctor.
Police said that both the youths were in an inebriated condition.
Based on the complaint lodged by the hospital authorities, the Mattuthavani police registered a case under sections 294 (b), 323, 506 (ii) of the IPC. Tamil Nadu Hospital Protection Act and arrested them.
Hospital officials said that legal action has been initiated against the relatives of the patient to ensure that such incidents of attacks on doctors do not recur in future.
In December 2019, a PG doctor was assaulted by the relatives of a patient at the Government Rajaji Hospital in Madurai. After the protest by the doctors, legal action was taken against the relatives of the patient.
