Twitter fails to appoint all 3 statutory officers in India – Times of India

New Delhi: Despite repeated reminders GovernmentTwitter has failed to hire all three statutory officer Mandatory under new IT rules. The company has been asked to “explain the non-compliance”, especially when it has not made an offer. valid reason to officials for delays beyond the original deadline of May 25.
The company is currently facing several legal and criminal cases in the country.

The failure to appoint statutory officers comes after Twitter had earlier assured the government that it had appointed a chief compliance officer, and is also in the process of falling in line with the broader guidelines.
Sources told TOI, “Twitter has failed to appoint all the three officers as prescribed by law, and will now have to give reasons.”

An Interim Grievance Redressal Officer, Dharmendra Chaturhas also resigned. Twitter had received its global legal policy director Jeremy Kessel for the position as another interim measure, although the appointment is not in line with guidelines as the grievance redressal officer must be based out of India.
Twitter has so far been non-committal on the matter, especially when it requires executives to be based out of India and on the role of the parent company (US headquarter) rather than mandate India.
It is understood that the government is investigating the misrepresentation of the Indian map on Twitter, especially when it was not put up by a third party user but by the company itself. The government sees this as the fault of a publisher rather than a middleman.
