Twenty injured, others trapped in blast near Ukrainian city of Dnipro

by ReutersAn explosion ripped through a two-story apartment building near the city of Dnipro in central Ukraine on Saturday, injuring 20 people, including five children, as rescue workers pulled residents out of the rubble, the regional governor said.

Writing on the Telegram messaging app, Serhiy Lisak said the condition of the three children was serious. A total of 17 people are undergoing treatment in the hospital.

Media reports said emergency teams pulled four people out from under the rubble in the town, known as the Pidhorodnenska community. Lisak said another child is still trapped.

Reports on social media said a Russian missile struck and hit an emergency services building.

There was no confirmation of the missile strike from Ukrainian military officials.

President Volodymyr Zelensky also wrote in a telegram that the explosion occurred between two residences.

“Unfortunately, there are people under the rubble,” Zelensky wrote. “Russia has once again proved that it is a terrorist state.”

Moscow denies that its military forces target civilians.

Pictures posted on social media showed rescuers working inside a shattered, smoldering building.
