Terror spread by BJP supporters and goons”.

Putting an end to all speculation on Monday, the BJP announced that Saha would return as the chief minister of Tripura, with the party’s legislature wing electing him unanimously.

The Council of Ministers headed by Saha will also take the oath of office and secrecy with him today.

Union Home Minister Shah and BJP chief Nadda have already reached Tripura to attend the swearing-in ceremony of the BJP-led government. PM Modi is scheduled to reach Agartala from Guwahati at around 10.35 am.

“This is the first time that an anti-Left government has retained power in the northeastern state in the last three decades. We are hopeful that the BJP 2.0 government will fulfill the aspirations of the people.

In 1988, the Congress-TUJS defeated the Left and formed a government in the border state, but lost to the Communists in 1993.

In the recently held assembly elections in Tripura, the BJP won 32 seats in the 60-member House, while its ally IPFT managed to secure one seat.

Meanwhile, the Left Front said in a statement that former chief minister and CPI(M) politburo member Manik Sarkar and secretaries of the CPI(M), CPI, RSP and Forward Bloc were invited by the state government to attend the swearing-in ceremony, but the Left Front The BJP has decided to boycott the event due to the “unprecedented terror spread by BJP supporters and goons” across the state since the announcement of the assembly election results on March 2.

On this basis, the Congress will also boycott today’s swearing-in ceremony.

Tripura Congress president and former minister Birjit Sinha claimed that over a thousand incidents of violence have taken place in Tripura since the declaration of the results of the assembly elections on March 2.

Holding the BJP responsible for the post-poll violence, the Congress leader said at least three people were killed and over 200 injured in a series of incidents of violence.

Sinha alleged that several properties including rubber plantations, shops, business establishments, vehicles and houses were destroyed and burnt during the violence, which is still going on.

The Tripura Congress chief also threatened to launch a state-wide agitation if the violence did not stop immediately.

Jitendra Chowdhary, Tripura CPI-M secretary, said: “In the wake of the series of attacks since March 2, thousands of people, including women and children, fled their homes and took refuge in forests and outside the state.”

“The police remained mute spectators and refused to register an FIR. Some were briefly detained but later released.
