Train Ticket Cancellation: Know Cancellation Charges on Confirmed Tickets

You are going to travel by train somewhere but suddenly due to some reason you have to change your plan. In this case you have to cancel the train ticket. But if you cancel your ticket, you will lose a substantial amount out of the total amount you paid to buy the ticket. Let us tell you the amount which is deducted on cancellation of your ticket.

Cancellation of e-ticket can be done on IRCTC website till the preparation of train chart. If the passenger wishes to cancel his e-ticket, he can do so till the train chart is prepared. Train charts starting at 12 noon are usually prepared on the previous night.

– Charges for cancellation of e-ticket before preparation of train chart

  • If the confirmed ticket is canceled 48 hours before the departure time of the train, the flat cancellation fee is Rs 240 for AC 1st Class/Executive Class and Rs 200 for AC 2nd Tier/First Class. Cancellation fee Rs. 180 for AC 3 Tier / AC Chair Car / AC 3 Economy, Rs. 120 for sleeper class and Rs 80 for second class.
  • If the confirmed ticket is canceled 12 hours before the scheduled departure of the train, the cancellation fee will be 25% of the minimum flat rate fare. Four hours before the scheduled departure of the train and up to 50% reduction in fare if it is canceled less than 12 hours before the chart is prepared. Indian Railway Reservation Chart is prepared from the source station or from the previous station.

Charges for cancellation of e-ticket after the preparation of reservation chart.

The e-ticket cannot be canceled after the reservation chart is prepared. Passengers use online TDR filing for such cases and track the refund status through the tracking service provided by IRCTC. TDR can be filed as per the rules of the Railways.

  • If the ticket is not canceled or TDR is not filed online before four hours of scheduled departure, no refund will be issued on tickets with confirmed reservation.
  • If the ticket is not canceled or TDR is not filed online by thirty minutes before the scheduled departure of the train, the RAC e-ticket will not get refund.

– Cancellation charge on Tatkal tickets booked as e-tickets
No refund is available on cancellation of confirmed Tatkal tickets. Waiting list tatkal tickets are charged for cancellation. Partial cancellation of Tatkal e-tickets is allowed.

Ticket cancellation charges in case of train cancellation
If the train is canceled due to flood, accident etc., full refund is issued on cancellation of the ticket within three days of the scheduled departure of the train.
