An eight-year-old girl from Kerala died after her mobile phone exploded. Investigation reveals that the explosion was caused by extensive use and severe heating. Manufacturer Xiaomi India has expressed concern and pledged to work with the authorities to determine the cause.
Over the past few years, there has been an alarming increase in the number of mobile phone explosions reported globally. These incidents have resulted in damages and even deaths, causing enormous distress to families and communities. One such tragic incident took place in Thrissur, Kerala, where a young woman died after her mobile phone exploded.
The victim, Adityashree was only eight years old, and reports suggest that she was using the mobile phone to watch a video when the device suddenly exploded around 10:30 pm on Monday. Adityashree was a Class III student studying at Christ New Life School in Tiruvilvamala.
Investigation into the incident suggests that the mobile phone may have exploded due to overheating due to extensive use, according to the police. And, according to The Times of India, the child’s grandmother was in another room when she heard a loud bang. On investigation, he found that Adityashree was lying in a pool of blood and her face was disfigured. Adityashree died.
According to Onmanorama, the phone, which was bought by Adityashree’s uncle three years ago, recently came for battery replacement from the same shop. It is not clear whether the official battery was fitted to the phone or not, and this is likely to be established only after a detailed investigation by the Kerala Police. Meanwhile, Xiaomi India, the manufacturer of the phone allegedly involved in the incident, has issued a statement expressing its concern:
“At Xiaomi India, customer safety is of utmost importance, and we take such matters extremely seriously. We stand by the family in this difficult time and hope to support them in every possible way. There are some reports which suggest that this is a Redmi phone which is yet to be set up, the matter is currently being investigated. We will work with the authorities to determine the true cause of the incident and support them in any way necessary.
