Tourism will get a big boost in the form of a new road connecting Sarnath with Ring Road. Varanasi News – Times of India

Varanasi: In order to promote tourism, a new road will now be constructed to avoid the congested areas connecting Sarnath with Ring Road, which will be connected to Lal Bahadur Shastri International Airport as well as the Varanasi-Lucknow Highway (NH). ) provides connectivity to all major highways. -56) and Varanasi-Ghazipur Highway (NH-29). The proposed world class road will be based on the theme of Buddhism.
A proposal to this effect is in its final stages, nearly two-and-a-half years after directions issued by Union Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari and Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, who asked officials to explore the possibility of developing one kilometer. Road connecting Ring Road to Sarnath on Buddhist theme.
Speaking to TOI on Tuesday, Divisional Commissioner Deepak Agrawal said, “Instead of widening the existing road connecting Sarnath to Ring Road after passing through densely populated areas, a new road through non-populated areas will The option to create has been explored. In fact, widening the existing connecting road would have required the acquisition of a large number of residential and other buildings as well as their demolition. The amount of compensation against acquisition of land with constructed buildings would have been much higher.”
“PWD and UP Bridge Corporation are working on finalizing the estimate, after which it will be sent to the state government for approval,” the commissioner said. “To keep the acquisition cost low, priority has been given to un-populated areas for a new alignment or road to connect Ring Road and Sarnath. The concerned agencies are preparing estimates for the road proposal on the surface and another for the elevated road,” he said, adding that this would help in creating a world-class route without disturbing the existing road population, which would also remain in use. .
Gadkari and Yogi had visited the city on November 12, 2018 to participate in the inauguration ceremony of the first phase of the 16.55 km Ring Road, which connects the Varanasi-Lucknow Highway (NH-56) to the Varanasi-Ghazipur Highway (NH-29). connects to. The work of four laning of 17.25 km Babatpur-Varanasi road and construction of 17.25 km on NH-56 by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Initially, the National Highways Authority of India, which constructed the Ring Road, was entrusted with the task of exploring the possibility of improving Ring Road-I connectivity with Sarnath. But, due to technical reasons, agencies like PWD and UPBC were involved to conduct the survey and estimate the cost of the project, officials said.
Prior to the construction of Ring Road-I, Sarnath airport was accessible from Shivpur and most parts of the city via the Pandeypur-Mawaiya or Pandeypur-Ashapur roads. After the completion of the Ring Road, a narrow road was used between it and Sarnath to reduce travel time from LBS International Airport to this major Buddhist pilgrimage and tourist destination.
Since the existing road is narrow and passes through a populated area, it was impossible for the authorities to ensure world class facilities. With the construction of the new wide road, the route from the airport to Sarnath or any highway connected by the Ring Road will be shortened by several kilometers compared to the routes being used so far.
