Top 5 bowling performances of the New Zealand speedster

Left-arm swing bowler Trent Boult has been the backbone of New Zealand’s bowling unit across all formats. Since his debut on the international stage in 2011, the fast bowler has grown by leaps and bounds to establish himself as one of the most lethal and successful fast bowlers of recent times. He also plays for Mumbai Indians in the Indian Premier League. As Boult turns 32 on July 22, we have picked five of his best bowling performances to date in the international circuit.

6/30 vs Sri Lanka, Hagley Oval, 2018

In the last Test of the two-match series between New Zealand and Sri Lanka at the Hagley Oval, the hosts displayed poor batting in the first innings. After scoring 179, Sri Lanka were expected to take a good lead after their batting innings. However, Boult had other plans.

The seamer dismantled the opposition’s batting unit, picking up six wickets for just 30 runs in his 15 overs. Boult picked up another three wickets in the previous innings to help New Zealand win by 423 runs. Undoubtedly, this is Boult’s Test performance in the purest format of the game to date.

4/34 vs India, Rajkot, 2017

Boult recorded his best performance in the purest format of the game in 2017 in a T20I match against India at Rajkot. Batting first in the game, Kiwi team scored a total of 196 runs in 20 overs. Chasing the target, India fell short by 40 runs as Boult struck with the ball.

The left-arm pacer took four crucial wickets including Rohit Sharma, Shikhar Dhawan, MS Dhoni and Axar Patel. He finished with figures of 4-0-34-4.

7/34 vs West Indies, Hagley Oval, 2017

Boult delivered the finest performance of his ODI career in 2017 during the second one-day international of the three-match series against West Indies. West Indies were chasing a target of 325 runs set by the Kiwis when they were hit by a storm named Trent Boult.

The 32-year-old pacer went all guns blazing against the opposition’s weak batting line-up to take seven wickets for just 34 runs in his ten overs. Building on Boult’s exploits, New Zealand won the ODI by 204 runs while Boult won the man of the match award.

6/33 vs Australia, Seddon Park, 2017

Another impressive performance from Boult in the 50-over format came against Australia at Seddon Park in 2014. Batting first, New Zealand started the ODI and scored 281 runs in their 50 overs.

Chasing 282, Australia could not keep themselves alive as they were bowled out for 257. The credit for this goes to veteran fast bowler Bolt. The Rotorua-born finished with figures of 10-1-33-6.

5/17 vs Pakistan, University Oval, 2018

The Men in Green’s batting line-up collapsed in the third One Day International of the five-match series between New Zealand and Pakistan in 2018. While Pakistan were chasing a target of 258, they found themselves falling to a total of 74.

Boult ran through the opposition batting line-up as he picked up five wickets for just 17 runs, helping his team post a colossal 183-run victory. Some of the notable wickets taken by Boult include Azhar Ali, Fakhar Zaman and Mohammad Hafeez.
