A wanted accused in the case has alleged that actress Shilpa Shetty’s husband Raj Kundra paid Rs 25 lakh to Mumbai Crime Branch officials to evade arrest so far for producing obscene films.
As reported by Mid-Day, in March the firm of Arvind Srivastava alias Yash Thakur, named as the kingpin of the racket, had complained to the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) through an email the same month. The ACB then forwarded it to the Mumbai Police Chief’s office in April. However, the municipal officials refused to say anything. On Wednesday, the Crime Branch raided Kundra’s Andheri office.
ACB’s complainant was Flizz Movies, formerly known as US-based firm Newflix. The police had named the firm in March and seized two bank accounts of its owner Srivastava, worth around Rs 4.5 crore.
In the email, Newflix also claimed that “through a police informer, a demand was made to pay a similar amount to the firm”.
The Mumbai Crime Branch is probing 70 videos allegedly made on the orders of Kundra. Sources told News18 that 70 obscene videos were made by small production houses. A source said that all these production houses are now under the scrutiny of the property sale.
Apart from these, 90 videos made exclusively for the Kundra-owned Hotshots app are being scrutinized by the team. The duration of some is more than 20 to 30 minutes, the source said.

On Monday, police had named Kundra as the “key conspirator” of the case, which was registered on February 4 at the Malwani police station in suburban Mumbai. A total of 11 people have been arrested in the case so far, the police said.
Kundra has been booked under Indian Penal Code (IPC) sections 420 (cheating), 34 (general intent), 292 and 293 (relating to obscene and obscene advertisements and display) besides relevant sections of the IT Act and indecent representation Is. Women (Prohibition) Act.
Amid controversy, Shilpa Shetty’s husband’s lawyer has defended the content produced by the businessman, saying that web shows these days are working – pornographic content. He added that the clip cannot be classified as porn.
