Coimbatore: Tamil Nadu Agricultural University (TNAU) will conduct the re-examination for the students who were declared failed in the recent online outstanding examination on 22nd December. This time, the exam will be conducted offline with less fee.
TNAU had failed 48% of the students who had appeared for the online arrears exam in July earlier this month. The students later staged a protest alleging lapses in conducting the examination.
On Sunday, TNAU registrar and acting vice-chancellor Dr AS Krishnamurthy had called a special meeting with the deans of constituent colleges and principals of affiliated private colleges to resolve the issues.
TNAU had not conducted the arrears exam in the academic year 2018-19 and 2019-20 for the graduate students of constituent colleges who appeared for the exam in 2017 and before.
TNAU’s controller of examinations K Suryanathasundaram said, “In July this year at least 2,453 students had appeared for the outstanding examination and about 48% of them were declared unsuccessful for indulging in malpractice.”
Based on Sunday’s discussion, he said, a unanimous decision was taken to hold the special re-examination in Coimbatore from December 22. “Arrangements will be made to correct the answer sheets and declare the result at the earliest to help the students who are interested. For higher studies and placements.”
Meanwhile, the examination fee has been reduced from Rs 500 per subject to Rs 200 based on the demand of the students. “Accommodation and accommodation facilities for the students from outside will be made in the university campus. Deans and principals have been asked to ensure distribution of study material to students and organize special coaching classes,” the official said.
