TMC MP Sukhendu Roy blames Congress for not taking initiative in projecting opposition unity

Trinamool Congress Rajya Sabha MP Sukhendu Shekhar Roy has blamed the Congress for not taking the initiative to project opposition unity to take on the BJP ahead of the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. He also said that “some people” were poaching their leaders for the TMC to “continue with its expansion plan”.

At a press conference in New Delhi on Tuesday, Roy lashed out at the growing rift between the two parties, who had joined hands together to stop the BJP’s juggernaut ahead of the next general election, and said, “Mamata ne Sonia ji Requested to take initiative… We did not see any initiative (from Congress). Now some people are accusing us… We have to go ahead with our expansion plan.

According to political analysts, the TMC wants to keep its record straight that they are serious about opposition unity while the Congress is not.

The Congress, however, has accused the TMC of “propagating” the poaching of its leaders. “Any party can expand anywhere but the propaganda that TMC is doing with Congress is not right. TMC should take over its party first,” said Congress MP Pradeep Bhattacharya.

Former Goa Congress chief minister Luizinho Faleiro, who joined the TMC last month, was also appointed as the TMC’s national vice-president ahead of Banerjee’s visit to Goa on October 28. Sushmita Dev, who was the national spokesperson of the Congress and the head of the All India Mahila Congress. , joined TMC in August.

TMC insiders say that the main target of the party is the BJP but if the Congress becomes weak then it cannot make them strong. “TMC has always said that they want a united opposition but others will have to do the same.” TMC wants to be the main option and they are aggressive about it, but they want opposition parties to be united in this cause.
