Chidambaram said Congress workers and voters of Curtorim constituency are determined to defeat Lourenço. Asked whether he believes that TMC is helping BJP and Mamata Banerjee’s party with Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) is working as the B-team of BJP, Chidambaram said, ” I do not comment on the objectives of any party. In 2022, Congress will emerge as a clear winner in a direct fight between BJP and Congress.

“TMC and you are sabotaging the non-BJP vote. Will this benefit BJP, I cannot say.

Asked whether the Congress would announce the chief minister’s post before the elections, Chidambaram said that he has said that after the announcement of all the Congress candidates, in consultation with him, “we will consider whether to announce the CM candidate.” is desirable. before the election. That option is open, he said. Talking about the preparations for the elections and the condition of the Congress in Goa, he said that the fall of the Congress happened in 2017 and 2019 when its elected MLAs joined the BJP. BJP government Chidambaram alleged that Goa has a “government of defectors, defectors and defectors”.

When asked about the possibility of exodus of elected leaders of the party after the elections, he said, “Nothing like this will happen.” We have placed the responsibility of suggesting names of potential candidates on the block Congress committees and block workers. We have asked them to recommend names on the basis of loyalty, integrity, acceptability towards Congress workers and victory among voters.”

Chidambaram said loyalty to the party and voters is the first criterion. “We will select a candidate from among the names suggested by the Block Congress Committee of the constituency. We are confident that our candidates will remain loyal to the party and voters if they are elected.”

On the possibility of an alliance, Chidambaram said, “I have found that, in Goa, there is a practice among political parties to talk to each other till the elections and even after the elections!”

“Our Goa PCC leaders have responded to suggestions for talks by other parties, including the Goa Forward Party. There are opportunities, risks and obstacles. The AICC leadership will take the final decision.”

The Congress last week released the first list of eight candidates for the upcoming assembly elections in Goa, fielding former chief minister Digambar Kamat from the Margao constituency. The Congress this week has fielded 82-year-old Pratapsinh Rane as the party’s candidate from Goa’s Porim assembly seat. In the 2017 Goa Legislative Assembly elections, the Congress had won 17 seats in the House and emerged as the single largest party. But, the BJP, which secured 13 seats, forged an alliance with some regional parties and independent candidates to form the government in the state.

Lourenco’s resignation as a member of the Legislative Assembly on Monday reduced the party’s strength in the 40-member House to two after a series of resignations by party legislators over the years. AAP had contested the last assembly election, but could not win a single seat. TMC has entered the electoral fray in Goa and forged an alliance with the Maharashtrawadi Gomantak Party.
