Arshad Ahmed Mir had joined the police last year.

Srinagar:

Thousands of people attended the last rites of a police officer killed by terrorists in Srinagar today.

Thousands of mourners gathered to pay their last farewell to the martyr sub-inspector as soon as the body reached Kalmuna village in Kupwara district of Jammu and Kashmir.

Police said the 25-year-old officer was shot dead when he took a detained man to a medical facility at Khanyar in Srinagar city.

Director General of Police Dilbag Singh said, “We have lost a brave young officer. He was deputed to the hospital to investigate an accused man. When he was coming out of the hospital, he was shot.”

“The culprit has been identified and he will be brought to justice,” he said.

Officials say that Mir was recruited as a sub-inspector in the Jammu and Kashmir Police last year. After completing a year’s training, he was posted at Khanyar police station for a few months.

The shooting was captured on a CCTV camera. In the video, terrorists are seen coming from behind and firing point blank. The soldier was hit by three bullets in the head and he fell.

The assailant managed to escape in empty clothes. A man is seen following him but returns to help the fallen officer.

Officials said Mir was taken to a hospital where he was declared brought dead.
