‘They Only Wanted Virgin Actress Who…’: Mahima Choudhary on Change in Bollywood

MumbaiMahima Chaudhary, known for her character in ‘Pardes’, has been missing from the big screen for a long time. The talented actress won many hearts with her stellar performance in Subhash Ghai’s film. Her sizzling chemistry with Shah Rukh Khan created a flutter when the musical drama released in theatres.

Talking to a leading daily, Mahima spoke about the changes that have come about in the Hindi film industry over the years. He said that the present generation of actresses are getting better portions and advertisements. Chowdhary said that heroines these days have a longer shelf life.

Mahima gave a no-holds-barred interview and said that the relationship status of an actress affected her career in earlier times. “The moment you start dating someone, people turn you down because they only wanted a virgin who didn’t kiss. If you were dating someone, it was like, ‘Oh! That’s dating. Still working!’ If you were married, forget it, your career was over, and if you had a child, it was all over,” the ‘Lajja’ actress told Hindustan Times.

Her interview has struck a chord with many as Mahima is one of the few actresses who dared to speak about the developments in the industry.

Mahima has worked in films like ‘Daag: The Fire’, ‘Dhadkan’ and ‘Kurukshetra’, ‘Baghban’. He was last seen in a Bengali criminal thriller ‘Dark Chocolate’. Her contemporaries like Raveena Tandon, Karisma Kapoor have forayed into the OTT arena. It remains to be seen whether Chowdhury gives his consent a Digital project or not.
