The Employees’ Provident Fund Organization (EPFO) has extended the deadline for applying for higher pension for certain categories of retired employees enrolled under the Employees’ Pension Scheme (EPS) till May 3, 2023. In November 2022, the Supreme Court allowed 4 months to apply for higher pension under EPS 1995. The period for opting for higher pension for EPS 1995 participants who resigned before September 1, 2014, ended on March 4, 2023.

EPFO has now allowed eligible pensioners to apply online with necessary documents through a unified portal. Employees who were members of EPS on 1st September, 2014 and continued to be members of EPFO ​​on or after 1st September, 2014 can now apply for higher pension. This option is available only for those who missed the earlier deadline.

According to government data, more than 8,000 members have already submitted their applications online.

Earlier, EPFO ​​had issued a circular on February 20 as per the decision of the Supreme Court. In order to correctly calculate the benefits and evaluate the Pension Fund, an accurate assessment of contributions, deposits, disbursements, past services rendered and remittances will be made.

On March 4, 2023, EPFO ​​closed the options for retired EPS members (before 01.09.2014 and whose options were not considered earlier). As on 04.03.2023, it had received 91,258 online applications from this category of candidates.

The Employees’ Pension (Amendment) Scheme 2014 was confirmed by the Supreme Court in November 2022.
