Delhi Police Issues Traffic Advisory For Holi 2023, Shab-e-Baraat; Check Details

On Holi and Shab-e-Barat, special squads of traffic police will be deployed along with PCR and local police to check drunken driving and violation of traffic rules, according to officials on Tuesday. According to him, elaborate preparations have been made in the national capital to ensure the safety of drivers and pedestrians, maintain the flow of traffic and prevent reckless driving and two-wheeler stunts. Shab-e-Barat and Holi both happen on that day.

During Shab-e-Barat, people of the Muslim community offer prayers in mosques as well as in the graves of their forefathers. Apart from the police, officials said over 150 company security personnel, 800 traffic police personnel and 9,000 local police will be deployed for Shab-e-Barat, which will be celebrated on the intervening night of March 7 and 8.

Over 600 pickets and 1,300 motorcycle patrols will be deployed in the national capital. Also, 759 traffic officers will be deployed at 283 strategic locations, the Delhi Police said in an advisory.

It added that radar guns would also be deployed to prevent over-speeding incidents. According to the advisory, special teams comprising 2,033 officers will be deployed at 287 major intersections and 233 drug and drug-sensitive spots for Holi.

“Driving license will also be impounded for drunken driving, red light jumping, using mobile phone while driving, dangerous driving and over speeding” as directed by the Supreme Court Committee on Road Safety and shall be liable to suspension.” for a minimum period of three months.

“Action will also be initiated against the registered owners of vehicles whose vehicles are being driven by minors/unauthorized persons, performing stunts, driving without licence,” it said. The public is advised to follow traffic rules and not drink and drive, the advisory said.

“Obey the prescribed speed limit. Follow the traffic signals. Do not indulge in racing or competition with other vehicles. Two wheeler drivers and riders should wear helmets and avoid triple riding.”
