Lucknow: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday called for setting up a high-level police technology mission under the leadership of the Home Minister. Amit Shah Adoption of futuristic technologies for grassroots policing needs.
Speaking at the concluding ceremony of the three-day DGP-IGP Annual Conference here, the PM cited the importance of technology in the lives of the general public, giving examples of CoWIN, GeM and UPI.
He suggested the development of case studies and analysis of all incidents related to police, so that it can be made an institutional learning mechanism.
He also appreciated the positive change in the attitude of the police towards the general public, especially in the post-COVID-19 world. He also suggested the positive use of drone technology for the benefit of the people.
The Prime Minister emphasized the review of the Smart Policing concept introduced in 2014 and suggested the development of a roadmap For its continuous transformation into police forces and institutionalization of the same.
To tackle some of the routine challenges faced by the police, he urged them to engage highly qualified youth to explore technical solutions through hackathons.
He appreciated the hybrid format of the conference as it allowed free flow of information between different ranks. He suggested development of interoperable technologies that would benefit police forces across the country.
While spending two consecutive days in the conference, the PM also participated in the discussions and gave valuable suggestions. For the conference, various core groups of DGPs were formed to discuss key aspects of national security like prison reforms, terrorism, left-wing extremism, cyber crime, drug trafficking, foreign funding of NGOs, drones- Was. The PM also awarded the President’s Police Medal for Distinguished Service to IB personnel. For the first time, as per PM’s instruction, IPS Officials from various states presented articles on contemporary security issues, which gave more importance to the conference. The conference, which lasted for three days, was attended by 62 officers of the rank of DGP and chiefs of the Central Armed Police Forces in Lucknow.
More than 400 officers of various ranks also participated in the conference virtually from IB offices across the country. Union Home Minister Amit Shah inaugurated the conference on Friday.
