Mangaluru: The Organ a 32 year old brain dead manwho lost his life in one bike accident, Were bitten but successfully Father Muller Charitable Hospital on Wednesday.
Satish Murje Moolah, 32, from Bantwal Was declared brain dead on Tuesday.
When Moola’s family came forward to donate his organs, it was learned that he had suffered serious injuries in a bike accident on December 26 and was brought to the hospital in a coma.
The severed heart was transplanted into a 20-year-old man at Manipal Hospital in Bengaluru. The liver was harvested and sent to Narayana Hrudayalaya, Bangalore on a chartered flight. The kidneys were taken to Manipal’s Kasturba Hospital and Derelakatta’s KS Hegde Medical Hospital to help patients.
KSHEMA was given the cornea along with the skin to Father Müller’s eye bank.
Lavina and Padma of the State Organ Tissue Transplant Organization (SOTTO) team and the body appointed to oversee the implementation of the Human Organ Transplantation Act, Jeevasarthakathe, were accompanied by the hospital’s transplant coordinators, Dr Calvin Paes and Reshma Carol D’Sa.
Mangaluru City Police provided green corridor and gave necessary clearances. ACP (Traffic) MN Natraj was present.
Nephrologist Dr Manjunath S and Urologist Dr Manjunath Shetty and Medical Superintendent Dr Uday Kumar supervised the procedure.
Father Richard A Coelho, Director of the Father Muller Charitable Institution, consoled the bereaved family along with Father Ajit Menezes, Father Nelson Paes and Father Jeevan D’Souza.
Meanwhile, Mangaluru International Airport facilitated quick evacuation of recovered organs from the departure gate to the security hold area for onward transport to Bengaluru on a non-scheduled chartered flight.
