Bhubaneswar: Congress On Friday, Madhusmita Acharya was elected as the mayoral candidate for the upcoming elections to the Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC).
Acharya, who is a post graduate in arts and an MBA in cosmetology, is the daughter-in-law of the former MLA Kangali Step Panda. She has been associated with Congress since her student life. An alumnus of Utkal University, during his student days, Kamala Nehru was elected president of the Women’s College.
“I have been active in serving people in various capacities. I thank the party for believing in me to contest for the post of Mayor of Bhubaneswar. I know and understand the city better and look forward to being given the opportunity to serve the residents here. As far as the election for the post of mayor is concerned, I do not think which party is strong and which is weak. There are educated voters and 40% from slums. People know who should be their mayor,” she told TOI.
