Telegram Updates: Group Chat Control, Global Theme on Android, Anonymous Posting in Public Groups and more

Telegram is rolling out a new update that brings a bunch of new updates that include tools to prevent others from saving content to groups and channels. Users are also getting the ability to delete messages by specific dates and “new ways to manage your connected devices.” Wire Users with Android and iOS phones are advised to keep their apps updated to enjoy the new features. The company shared the latest development in a blog.

Starting with tools for groups and channels, administrators can now prohibit forwarding of chats, prevent screenshots, and limit the ability to save media files. To change users’ ability to forward messages, administrators must open their group or channel information page > Group/Channel Type > Save Restricted Content. Similarly, users now have “complete control over their digital footprint and can delete any message from a conversation at any time.” This feature can be especially useful for deleting content from a specific date on any face-to-face chat. To open Calendar, tap the date bar that pops up as you scroll through the chat – then choose which days to clear. In addition, users have existing options to use ephemeral messages which automatically delete the chat after a specific period of time.

Additionally, the improved Connected Device Management tool will allow users to quickly link a desktop device and setting to automatically log out inactive devices after some time. Tap any device in the list to see more information and toggle whether it can accept calls or new incognito chats.

Other new features include anonymous posting to public groups that appear as a channel when messaging in select group chats. Users can access it by tapping on the profile picture next to the message bar and selecting one of their channels. Telegram explains, “The messages you send after that will appear with the channel name and photo instead of your personal account.” For Android users, Telegram has introduced a new theme that recently reached iOS users.

On iOS 13 and up, Telegram chat has recognition (live text) enabled for photos, so you can quickly select, copy, and search without touching your keyboard. Apple introduced this feature on the native camera app as well but it is available for newer iPhones. iOS 15 users are also getting updated info pages with a new look to match the beauty of the phone.
