The reduction in the rates of two tests which are mandatory for the passengers as the fear of the Omron variant has surfaced has brought great relief to the passengers. An earlier report mentioned about the trauma of workers who had to arrange money from their hometowns for rapid PCR tests before they could fly to Dubai, where they were working on meager wages. . The cost of rapid PCR test per person was Rs 3,400 and now the rate has come down to Rs 2,900 per person. The cost of RT-PCR was Rs 700 per person and has now come down to Rs 600.
Adani Group-owned Mumbai Airport, on the other hand, said it is working with testing laboratories and other partners to explore the possibility of reducing the fee for rapid RT-PCR testing. This comes a day after the Maharashtra government reportedly took up the issue of high charges for coronavirus testing at the airport with the central government.
The private airport operator had on December 4 announced reduction of rates for rapid RT-PCR test at its facility from Rs 4,500 to Rs 3,900. A typical RT-PCR test costs a passenger Rs 600.
The charges at Mumbai airport are “very high” as compared to the rates charged by other airports like Bengaluru, Chennai and Kochi. “We are aware of the questions and are working with testing laboratories and other partners so that we can further reduce the cost of rapid PCR testing,” a Mumbai airport spokesperson said in a statement.

The Chennai airport director said the airport decided to forego the revenue portion of the tests conducted at its premises and pass it on to the passengers. He also called upon the passengers to register and pay online before reaching the airport to reduce the waiting time for the test.
After the Omicron version came out, both the central and state governments have mandated RT-PCR test for passengers coming from at-risk countries and random screening of two per cent for the total flight passengers coming from non-at-risk countries. countries too.
