Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao has ordered an immediate inquiry into the custodial death of a Dalit woman in Telangana and asked the authorities concerned to take strict action against the police personnel responsible as per law.

Director General of Police (DGP) Mahender Reddy has been directed to conduct an inquiry into the lock-up death of Dalit woman Mariamma and take strict action against the police personnel responsible as per law.

He said, “We will not condone such incidents. If anyone harms Dalits, the government will not keep silent. Quick action will be taken on the matter. There should be no delay in questioning the culprits of the lockup deaths and taking strict action against them.” ” If necessary, dismiss him from service.

Describing Mariamma’s death as very painful, he said that the government would never support such steps.

Rao also mentioned that the Telangana government would support the victim’s children, and directed Chief Secretary Somesh Kumar to ensure that Mariamma’s son Uday Kiran gets a government job, a house and an ex-gratia of Rs 15 lakh, and 10 lakh each is given to his two daughters.

He further directed the DGP to visit Chintakaniki to ascertain the facts and details about the lockup death and console the family members of the victim.

Calling for a change in the society’s attitude towards Dalits, Rao said, “The society needs to change its attitude towards Dalits. Police’s attitude and behavior towards Dalits in particular should be in favor of Dalits. They and theirs. to endorse.”

“It is unfortunate that such an incident happens when the police machinery is making a qualitative change in maintaining the law and order situation,” he said.

The National Commission for Scheduled Castes (NCSC) has issued notice to the Telangana government in the matter of Mariamma’s death.

The notice was issued on Tuesday on the orders of its chairman Vijay Sampla.

The NCSC has also issued notices to the District Collector and Superintendent of Police of Bhongir district, the Chief Secretary of the State and the Director General of Police, Telangana to submit a report within seven days regarding the facts and information regarding the action taken on the matter. .

According to information available with the NCSC, a Dalit woman, Mariamma, a cook in a house, was arrested along with her son Uday Kiran on a theft complaint lodged by the owner and in a lock-up of Adagudur police station in Bhongir district. He had died. for alleged police atrocities. According to reports, Mariamma was beaten up at various places on her body for four days.
