Telangana: 600 year old inscription found in Dommata of Siddipet district

Siddipet: Historians from the Kotha Telangana Charitra Brundam (KTCB) have discovered an inscription dated to the 14th century AD in agricultural fields in Dommata village of Cheriyal mandal of Siddipet district.

During the search, Kolipaka Srinivas, a member of the KTCB, recently found the inscription. Srinivas sent the digital images of the inscription to KTCB founder Sriramoju Hargopal.

After decoding the inscription, Hargopal found that a local ruler, Pidimari Naganayani, had bought the entire Domta village and gifted it to the local Brahmins as agraharams.

Although the time period was not mentioned on the inscription, Hargopala stated that the Telugu script used on the inscription dates back to the 14th century AD. Nothing is mentioned on the inscriptions of the dynasty of Paidimari Naganayani.

Since there was no major rule with the name in South India, the KTCB members saw that he could be a local ruler.

Dommata village, which has a history of more than 600 years, split into two villages about 20 years ago, when the local stream of Gurujakunta Vagu flowed through the village. Some villagers built their houses on the right bank of the stream, while others built their houses on the left bank.

The two villages are now called Kotha Domata and Path Domata. Since the villages had a stream and pond called Krishnamma, members of the KTCB were of the view that the availability of water would have attracted humans to make the place a permanent settlement.

The Sarpanch of Path Dommata Gallipally Subhashini thanked the KTCB team for their efforts to trace the history of their village.
