Tata Consumer Products forays into honey and preserves segment through Himalayan brand

New Delhi: Tata Consumer Products Limited (TCPL) on Thursday announced its entry into the honey and preserves category by expanding its premium water brand Himalayan in the segment. A renowned water brand Himalayan enjoys significant equity among consumers as it is a natural mineral water bottled directly from the source in the Himalayan foothills, with strong sustainability credentials, the company said.

“In line with the brand’s reputation, both these new products are being sourced from the Himalayan region,” Tata Group’s FMCG arm said in a statement. (Also read: US inflation rises to 9.1% in June, at 40-year high)

With this launch, the brand expands its product portfolio into new categories and will be available at select premium outlets across India. (Also read: Sensex, Nifty fall for the fourth day, IT, banking stocks fall)

Himalayan Preserves are handmade in small batches using fruits of Himalayan origin and procured from partners committed to helping local communities.

TCPL said these will be available in five flavors – strawberry, apricot, black cherry, apple cinnamon and three fruit marmalade without any flavorings or preservatives.

It said, “The honey is being sourced from ‘Pahari Udyog’, a collaborative organization of the Tata Trusts, which works to promote traditional beekeeping practices, with the aim of obtaining unadulterated mountain honey and a mountainous honeybee. To establish a honey value chain.”

Vikram Grover, MD, Nurishco Beverages Ltd., Tata Consumer Products, said that the Himalayan brand has a very loyal consumer base and has stood for the natural Himalayan experience over time.

“We see a great opportunity to enhance the Himalayan brand with this expansion and offer a different consumer experience,” he said.

The new range of Himalayan honey will be available for Rs 300 for a pack of 250 gm, while the cost of preserved products is Rs 425 for a pack of 450 gm.

TCPL was formed after merging the consumer products business of Tata Chemicals with Tata Global Beverages and has a reach of over 201 million households. It has a consolidated annual turnover of Rs 12,425 crore with operations in India and international markets.
