Expelled AIADMK general secretary VK Sasikala on Saturday turned emotional as she paid tribute to her old friend and former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Jayalalithaa. After being released from Bengaluru’s Parappana Agrahara jail after serving a four-year jail term in a disproportionate assets case, Sasikala had earlier said that she would “stay away from politics and public life”.

However, the AIADMK expressed its displeasure after Amma’s memorial was visited a day before the party’s golden jubilee. Former minister D Jayakumar said he has no place in the party. Describing his visit as “artificial”, the leader asserted, “He may get an Oscar for his performance, but he will not get a place in the AIADMK.”

Earlier in March, ahead of the assembly elections, Sasikala had said “she would stay away from politics,” but would pray for Jayalalithaa’s “golden rule”.

She became the interim general secretary of AIADMK after Jayalalithaa’s death in 2016 and a general council meeting in 2017 revoked the appointment and also declared all appointments made by Dinakaran invalid.
