Taiwan ‘believes’ to increase military support in America, Chinese jets blew up its defense sector

New Delhi: Taiwan’s Ministry of National Defense claimed in a tweet that three People’s Liberation Army (PLA) aircraft entered its air defense detection area on Wednesday.

Taiwan’s President Tsai Ing-wen said she “believed” the US would support the island nation if Chinese forces attacked, AFP reported. The President further confirmed that there are a small number of US troops in Taiwan to help with the training.

While President Tsai Ing-wen showed her confidence in the US, the country’s defense minister said Taiwan should not be completely dependent on other countries.

Taiwan’s Defense Minister Chiu Kuo-cheng said in a statement on Thursday: “The country must rely on itself, and if any friends or other groups can help us, as I said earlier, we We are happy to have it, but we cannot completely depend on it.”

The conflict between China and Taiwan has escalated for decades as Mainland China claims Taiwan as part of it.

On Wednesday, China said Taiwan “has no right to join the United Nations (UN).”

Beijing’s statement comes a day after US Secretary of State Antony Blinken expressed concern over Taiwan not being given a seat on the world stage. He called on UN members to increase Taiwan’s inclusion in more UN institutions.

After China’s civil war in 1949, nationalists from Mainland China fled to the nearby island, now known as Taiwan.

However, Beijing still considers Taiwan as its share and believes that reunification will take place by force if necessary.

While Taiwan is getting more support on the world stage, China has maintained its nationalist stance. According to an AFP report, Chinese President Xi Jinping suggested that the signs of the invasion were not imaginary.
