Diwali 2021: From Organic Rangoli to LED Lights, Tips for an Eco-Friendly Festival

Diwali means festival of lights. One of the biggest and most important festivals of Hinduism is celebrated in different ways in different parts of the country. Talking about the thinking behind this festival, it is a celebration of the victory of good over evil. As per the traditions, the house is decorated and diyas are lit. To celebrate, people also draw rangolis, light up lights, wear new clothes and worship the deity. In the evening, Goddess Lakshmi and Lord Ganesha are worshipped and people burst crackers.

However, these crackers spread a lot of pollution around us and harm the environment. And hence, everyone is continuously promoting eco-friendly Diwali. Here are a few ways you can celebrate an eco-friendly Diwali and enjoy it as much as you would otherwise.

say no to firecrackers In view of the increasing pollution, many state governments have banned the bursting of firecrackers. Therefore, you can teach children to play with balloons or other toys instead of bursting crackers. They blow and burst them and have fun with each other.

use lamps and lights Various types of lamps and LED lights are available in the market these days. Use these instead of candles, as the latter contain petroleum components that harm the environment. At the same time, LED lights do not even use that much electricity.

make organic rangoli If you make Rangoli with chemical colours, they can pollute the floor. So, if you make Rangoli with rice or flowers then it will not only be traditional and beautiful but also chemical free. Rice, turmeric, coffee powder and kumkum can be used along with petals of rose, marigold, lotus etc.

organic gifts will be special There is a tradition of gifting things to each other in Diwali. So if you will use newspaper or hand made paper instead of packing your gift with glossy polythene, people will love it. You can give dry fruits or small plants.
