Shastri became the director of the Indian cricket team for a period of eight months from India’s tour of England in 2014 to the 2015 World Cup. Shastri was dropped in 2016, but on July 13, 2017, he was appointed the head coach of the Indian team, forming a strong partnership with Kohli.
