T20 World Cup 2023: Shabnim Ismail Touches 80 mph, Bowls Fastest Ball in Women’s Cricket

Shabnim Ismail entered the record books by bowling at a speed of 80 mph.

South Africa’s experienced fast bowler Shabnim Ismail bowled the fastest ball in women’s cricket during T20 World Cup semi-final against England on Friday. The 34-year-old fast bowler, who has been in fine form in recent times, once again troubled the English batsmen with pace.

Shabnim bowled over 80 miles per hour (128 kmph) against England women to enshrine her name in the record books. The South African pacer also claimed the wickets of Sophia Dunkley, Ellyse Capse in the same over, helping South Africa take control of the game while chasing down a target of 165.

Meanwhile, Laura Wolvaardt and Tazmin Britts struck half-centuries as South Africa produced their best batting performance of the tournament in their Women’s T20 World Cup semi-final against England at Newlands in Cape Town on Friday.

South Africa, winning the toss and batting on the same pitch, scored 164 runs for four wickets, which Australia and India on Thursday.

Wolvaardt and Brits followed up their unbeaten century opening stand by adding 96 runs in 13.4 overs for the first wicket in the last group match against Bangladesh.

The experienced pacer troubled both the batsmen and resulted in both getting dismissed early in the chase.

Earlier, South African captain Sune Luus won the toss and elected to bat against England in the Women’s T20 World Cup on Friday.

The hosts are unchanged while England bring in Lauren Bell in place of Freya Davies.
