Matthew Wade played a blind game of an innings as he single-handedly led Australia to their first final in the ICC t20 world cup 2021 in Dubai. Chasing 177 for victory, Australia were 89/4 when Matthew Wade came on. It was David Warner, who was looking in top form till then, who left. And from that moment Wade grabbed the bull by its horns. His best saved for last which came against a furious Shaheen Shah Afridi, whom he slammed for six, six, six to seal the deal.

“Absolutely (missed the scoop). I was talking to Stoinis on the other end trying to figure out what they were up to. I got a little bit more speed than expected, I could probably get used to it a little earlier Was, but yeah.. Glad to have a couple at the end. There wasn’t much conversation before I went in because we lost wickets early. But when I left, Marcus and I batted together in the first game Was there and gained some momentum even today,” he said in the post-match PC.

Wade and Marcus Stoinis should be credited with the Australian revival as they lost two of their best players to Steve Smith and David Warner due to some fast spin bowling from Shadab Khan. “I was a little unsure but Marcus showed me the way out. There was a short side and I was confident I could pull it if I had to hit it, but it fell on the two-a-ball and you had to go to your side. Had to hit everything in the arc. I got a boundary initially and then stayed for 5-6 balls, but Marcus removed the boundary and got us to the total where I was confident in the last two overs.”

Wade scored 41 runs in just 17 balls. It wasn’t all that scary for the batsman who lost his place in the team recently. “It hasn’t sunk, but it might sink when I sit down tonight. I was out on two teams for 2-3 years, just came back 20 games ago and am happy to have paid back,” he signed . ,
