SVNIT among top 50 institutes Surat News – Times of India

Surat: Sardar Vallabhbhai National Institute of Technology (SVNIT) improved its ranking in the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) even in the midst of a pandemic situation. The Union Education Ministry announced the rankings on Thursday.
SVNIT has climbed seven places to be ranked 47th among engineering institutes of the country from its 54th position last year to be ranked 47th this time.
Along with this, the institute has also made its place in the top 50 engineering institutes of the country.
The institute has improved the overall ranking of all types of higher education institutions as compared to the previous year. It is now ranked 98th, up from 120th in the overall ranking of all universities and institutions.
It is to be noted that the institute had gone through a struggle before Covid-19 even after it stopped receiving annual grants from the central government due to major discrepancies in its accounts. However, despite the global pandemic lockdown, the institute remained online and conducted everything remotely, including its campus placements.
“There are various parameters to judge the performance of the institute and the institute has improved in various areas. We are working to further improve the rankings,” said SVNIT director SR Gandhi.
The institute has recently completed the recruitment of teaching staff and now striving to fulfill the recruitment of non-teaching staff. “Due to Covid, the process got delayed. If our recruitment for non-teaching staff is completed on time, our performance will improve further,” Gandhi said.
Considering the importance of NIRF, many institutes are hiring private agencies who are helping them in submitting the applications. The SVNIT authorities are also considering the option of hiring a professional agency for the work. However it is yet to be finalized.
