Mumbai: Mumbai’s brilliant India limited overs batsman Suryakumar Yadav was added on monday team india for the first test against New Zealand In Kanpur, TOI has learned. Yadav, who scored a 40-ball 62 in India’s five-wicket win over New Zealand in the opening T20I in Jaipur last week, was asked to join the Ajinkya Rahane-led Indian Test squad in flight from Kolkata. In his first ODI series against Sri Lanka in July, Yadav scored 124 runs @ 62.8 runs in three matches at a strike rate of 122.8, and was named ‘Player of the Series’.
Building on his impressive performances in limited-overs games, Yadav joined India’s Test squad in England in August–September, but did not miss a game. The Mumbaikar, who has won many fans for his charming batting and bold stroke game – including the new coach of Team India Rahul Dravid Now it is expected that he will be able to make his Test debut on 25 November in Kanpur. As of late, the selectors have been keen on an aggressive middle-order batsman for the Test side, according to sources, and Yadav clearly meets that criterion. ,
Yadav, popularly known as ‘Sky’, has scored 5,326 runs in 77 first-class matches, including 14 centuries and 26 fifties. He made his first-class debut for Mumbai in the 2010–11 season scoring 73 against Delhi. Over the years, ‘Sun’ has been a consistent ‘run-getter’ for MI.
As an official communication in this regard has not come from BCCI at the time of writing, it is not yet known whether Yadav has been drafted as a replacement or just added as an additional player.
