Sudan Conflict: India Rescues 3,800 People Under Operation Kaveri

India has been evacuating its citizens under Operation Kaveri since the conflict broke out in the northeast African country last month.

The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) on Thursday said that India has rescued around 3,800 people from Sudan under Operation Kaveri.

Foreign Ministry spokesman Arindam Bagchi said on Twitter that another Indian Air Force aircraft with a batch of 47 people left Jeddah for Delhi.

“IAF C-130J aircraft with 47 evacuees from Sudan is on its way from Jeddah to Delhi. Around 3,800 people have been rescued so far from Sudan under Operation Kaveri.

India has been evacuating its citizens under Operation Kaveri since the conflict broke out in the northeast African country last month.

The Indian government launched the operation on 15 April after clashes broke out in Khartoum and other parts of Sudan. It immediately deployed Indian Navy ships and Air Force aircraft to evacuate Indians stranded in Sudan.

During the 10 days of Operation Kaveri, hundreds of Indians have been evacuated in multiple batches, the Embassy facilitated and facilitated the movement of buses from different parts of Sudan to reach Port Sudan.

Earlier this week, India also temporarily shifted its embassy from Khartoum to Port Sudan.

With 860,000 people estimated to have fled fighting in Sudan to neighboring countries, the United Nations refugee agency, UNHCR, on Thursday appealed for USD 445 million to help the displaced through October.

The United Nations estimates that the fighting has displaced more than 330,000 people inside Sudan and forced more than 100,000 to leave.
