Stock Market Updates: Sensex Down 100 pts, Nifty Near 18,250; LIC Up 3%, Nykaa Drops 2%

Sensex Today: Sensex and Nifty opened on negative note ahead of weekly F&O expiry. Frontline indices S&P BSE Sensex was trading flat at 61,716 levels, while Nifty 50 was trading below 18,300 levels.

Meanwhile, broader market, Nifty Midcap 100 and Nifty Smallcap 100 indices were the better performers as they slipped up to 0.2 per cent. The volatility index, India VIX, fell over 2 per cent.

Sector-wise, Nifty FMCG and Nifty Realty index advanced in trade with gains of up to 0.6 per cent each. On the other hand, Nifty Metal and Nifty Auto indices declined in the trade.

In individual stocks, Nykaa shares gained over 1 per cent after the company grew 33.7 per cent YoY to Rs 1,302 crore in Q4FY23.

Besides, Life Insurance Corporation (LIC) shares gained over 2 per cent after the company reported 400 per cent YoY standalone profit in Q4FY23.

Globally, US markets continued to trade lower for the fourth day in a row as no progress was seen in debt ceiling talks. The Dow Jones, S&P 500 and Nasdaq Composite indices were down up to 0.7 per cent.

Furthermore, the US FOMC minutes revealed that officials were unsure of how to initiate an interest rate hike trajectory while attempting to control inflation.

In Asia-Pacific, markets were mixed this morning, with the Nikkei 225 and Kospi rising up to 0.2 percent. On the flipside, the S&P 200 and Topix indexes fell up to 0.7 per cent.

For the commodity market, Brent crude and WTI crude prices fell 0.2 per cent to $78 per barrel and $74 per barrel, respectively.
